Understanding Hospice
Hospice care is specialized, comfort-focused care for individuals living with a life-limiting illness. It focuses on managing pain and other symptoms while supporting the patient’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.
At Omega Healthnest LLC, our interdisciplinary team works with patients and their families to provide compassionate, personalized care that prioritizes dignity, comfort, and quality of life.
Hospice care may be appropriate for individuals with a terminal illness and a medical prognosis of six months or less if the illness follows its expected course.
For Medicare hospice eligibility, the required physician certification and the patient’s decision to elect hospice care are also important.
Our team can help patients and families understand the assessment process and discuss whether hospice may be appropriate for their circumstances.
The right time to consider hospice is when a serious illness is progressing and comfort, symptom management, and quality of life have become the primary goals of care.
Families do not need to wait for a crisis before asking about hospice. Early conversations can help patients understand their options, express their wishes, and access appropriate support when eligible.
Omega Healthnest LLC provides hospice care in private homes, assisted living communities, nursing facilities, and other appropriate care settings throughout our North Texas service areas.
Our team works with patients, families, and facility staff to coordinate care that respects each person’s preferences and needs.
Hospice patients are not generally required to remain homebound and may continue activities outside the home as their condition allows.
Hospice staff make regular, scheduled visits based on the patient’s needs and the plan of care, and visit frequency can increase during times of change or crisis. In addition, clinicians are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to address urgent needs, questions, or concerns.
Yes, patients may continue to use their regular doctor while receiving hospice care. The hospice team coordinates closely with the patient’s physician to align treatment with the patient’s goals and ensure smooth, high‑quality care.
If your doctor has not brought up hospice, you can ask whether hospice is appropriate given your diagnosis and goals. With your permission, Omega Hospice Care can also communicate with your physician to review your condition and discuss whether hospice support would be beneficial.
